Message from the Chief
Welcome from the Chief of Police
My name is Barry W. Hale, and I am honored to serve as the Chief of Police for the Gluckstadt Police Department. It is a privilege to lead such a dedicated and professional group of men and women who are committed to protecting and serving the residents, businesses, and visitors of this great city.
I began my law enforcement career in 2002 with the Jackson Police Department after graduating from the Jackson Police Training Academy. I hold a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern Mississippi. Over my 20-year career in Jackson, I served in various roles including Patrol, Detective in the Vice/Narcotics Division, and as a member of multiple specialized units such as the ATF/Gun Crimes Unit, D.A.R.T. Unit, and Precinct Five. In 2014, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, serving in Patrol, D.A.R.T., and Vice/Narcotics. I was deeply honored to be recognized as Officer of the Month twice in 2004, Officer of the Year in 2004, and a 2005 National Association of Police Organizations “Top Cop” Honorable Mention recipient.
In 2021, I was promoted to Special Operations Commander, overseeing the Traffic Unit, D.A.R.T. Unit, DUI Unit, and Downtown Patrol. In May 2022, I accepted the position of Assistant Chief of the Gluckstadt Police Department, and on October 10, 2023, I was humbled to be appointed Chief of Police by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
At the Gluckstadt Police Department, we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all. Our officers exemplify professionalism and integrity, and we work diligently to provide the highest level of service through ongoing training and a strong dedication to community engagement. We understand the importance of building trust and forming lasting partnerships with our citizens, and we believe that community policing is the foundation of effective law enforcement.
As we look to the future, we remain focused on the challenges ahead and are constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance public safety and improve our services. I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about the department, our initiatives, and how we serve this growing community.
