Planning & Zoning Department
The City of Gluckstadt is a newly-incorporated city, rich in history and developing fast. The Planning Department works to ensure the city remains vibrant and sustainable by partnering with decision-makers and the community to balance a spectrum of needs and interests by providing guidance for the dynamics of growth, preservation and development.
The Planning and Community Development Department’s objective is to provide the highest quality of life standards for our citizens through protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the City of Gluckstadt Residents. The Department works to achieve the goals of Comprehensive Plan, management of the Zoning and Land Development Regulations Ordinances; and enforcement of building codes.
Department staff monitors all new projects, modifications of existing structures, signs, and building permits to oversee and approve the development of property under the adopted regulations. Planning and Zoning Staff reviews site plans, subdivisions and rezoning requests as well as changes to the Comprehensive Plan and works closely with the Planning & Zoning Commission in making recommendations on these and other land use issues to the Board of Aldermen. The Planning Department also reviews the zoning ordinance on a regular basis, and will make the necessary recommendations to amend the Zoning Ordinance where appropriate to the Planning & Zoning Commission. Other responsibilities include working on special land use and development projects and studies.
The regular monthly meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission falls on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Special Called meetings will be noticed as required by state law.
